Friday night is fast approaching, leaving many of us scrambling for plans as well as our sweaters as the weather gives us the cold shoulder (literally). So if you’re pulling your thick wool coat out of the closet, and after reaching in the pocket, discover a long lost, crumpled $10 bill and no idea what to do with it- you’re in luck! You can head on out to Great Scott for a stellar lineup, featuring two local greats, Babydriver and Abadabad. You can also check out Doug Tuttle, a master of psychedelic guitar.
Babydriver gifted us this past August with a two-track followup to their 2011 release, Sad Soldier Red. “Fugitive Waltz” is airy and melodic, emulating its title in its three-beat rhythm and bouncy quality. A meshing of baroque pop and slightly heavier psychedelic rock, they’re sure to keep you engaged with a dynamic show. Even better, they’re locals and hold Boston in a high regard- so we can’t let them down by not showing up to their show.
More locals, bringing a vintage quality to their brand of kaleidoscopic rock, Abadabad is just as much fun to listen to as their name is to say. Infusing elements of the rock and roll’s beginnings, pulling influence from early greats like Chuck Berry, Abadabad brings us reverb-laden vocals and tinny guitar. Crafting an elegantly minimalistic sound with more modern elements introduced to it as well.
Adding some Midwestern charm to the lineup, Doug Tuttle comes at us from Boston (previously spelled *Chicago*) by way of New Hampshire, introducing fuzzy layers to his unique form of psychedelic rock. Take such as simple instrument as the guitar and looping it, layering it, distorting it- manipulating its sound however he finds possible to transform simple songs into multi-layered complexities that are ultimately pleasing to the ear.
