Philly’s Sheer Mag quietly slipped their second 7″ (aptly titled II 7″) out during the part music collector/part eBay seller melee known as Record Store Day and hey, it’s totally fine if you overlooked it during the hedonistic burning of your wallet. They’re giving you another chance to discreetly catch up with a video of the EP’s opening track, “Fan the Flames”.
With a 16mm-shot video to match their euphorically grainy take on fuzz fried southern rock, “Fan The Flames” takes the band out of the blown speakers they hailed from and puts them on rat-infested stages where, well, they also fit in. Every basement show trope is nailed in “Flames”, including the unenthusiastically nodding guy in a Black Flag shirt, a blanket of sweat thick enough to fog up your computer screen, and thrash bros that have no perception of personal space as they physically debate whether moshing has treaded into fighting pissed off show-goers. Singer Christina Halladay commands the scene though, grinning as her supreme howl pushes anyone that thought their logo would herald a metal band to the back of the room.
The awesome II 7″ is available now via Sheer Mag’s Bandcamp and the band will be playing Tufts’ University’s Spring Thing with Bad History Month and Kal Marks this Friday, but it’s students only unless you’re someone’s +1. Isn’t it the perfect time to make some friends at Tufts?
