Though I appreciate a curated lineup within one genre, the combination of Horse Jumper of Love’s updated shoegaze, Ricky Eat Acid’s eloquent trip-hop, and the serene, sunny lo-fi of Mutual Benefit provided a beautifully eclectic mix, full of warmth and sweetness.
Hayden Thorpe is not a voice to easily forget. Thorpe’s deep register vibratos just the right way paired with his existential lyrics that was unlike anything I had heard before.
Mutual Benefit’s first ever Sold Out show, right here in Allston at the legendary Great Scott. Check out their mesmerizing rendition of “Golden Wake” off their critically acclaimed album Love’s Crushing Diamond. Oh boy, this was a special night :)…
On this night, Krill was good: the band played music between punk, garage, and, at times, a hint of pop, combining dynamic musical play with sincere lyrics- creating a sound that feels like something of their own.
