HUMPDAY HUNXXX (JONAH FURMAN)

Now that February is over, and the Valentine’s Day flowers my roommates got are long dead (in the trash or pressed in some stupid book idk what they do with their lives), it’s time to move on and get your spring fever rising with the new Humpday Hunxxx! This time around, we’re gonna get ya shamrock shakin for the seductive singer of Krill, Jonah Furman.

TOTAL NUGGETS WITH FRONTIER RUCKUS

Last time, I didn’t buy the record. A bandmate and I were salivating over a psych-folk vinyl when we mistakenly let it slide back into its milk crate. This time, I made the trip solo and left the store with a Malaysian pop comp from the ‘60s: a relatively tame selection. Relatively tame because Weirdo Records of Cambridge, Mass. is an odder, rarer shop than even the records it carries; it is the mind-blowing inverse of f.y.e…

BOYTOY TAKE A MYSPACE SURVEY

Brooklyn lo-fi basement rockers BOYTOY return to Boston on Thursday (2/28) to play TT the Bear’s Place with Sean Bones and Velah. The trio has only been kicking for a few months now, but have put out a series of top-notch demos, including “TV Dreams” below, and have gigged with the likes of The Growlers, Pretty & Nice, MMOSS, and You Can Be a Wesley, who they played with on New Years Eve at Allston Pudding’s Pizzeria Regina Throwdown…

FAVORITE SHIT – DOG BITE (TO PLAY PARADISE, 2/15)

Phil Jones, aka the brains behind psych-chillwave outfit Dog Bite may have dealt with the delicate from his time on the road as Washed Out’s keyboardist. But back on the road with his solo outfit, he’s causing a bit more destruction. Jones has become increasingly more experimental with Dog Bite’s music…

ALBUM APP? MORE LIKE LOAD OF CRAP

Recently, there’s been hubbub about musicians releasing albums via mobile apps. Surveys suggest that 35% of people use mobile devices as the primary delivery method of music. Plus, the app format offers artists a unique opportunity to bundle music with video footage, photos, and other relevant components. This seems logical and stuff, but I’m not buying…

HUMPDAY HUNXXX (Ilya Podolskiy)

New Year, New Hunxxx! This time we’re doing something different by getting even more up close and personal.

The members of AMNLS (Aminals) met each other back in 2005/2006, when they were all playing in different bands. Five single releases later, they are finally coming out with a full album due this summer. Until then, you can catch them during their “mini tour” from February 28th to March 3rd around the New England and NY/NJ area.
