OUT IN FRONT returned to Cambridge on October 15, just over a month since their gig with Charlotte Sands at The Middle East Downstairs. Opening for the British band LEAP, they primed the crowd at Sonia for a sweaty evening of high energy rock.

Fans showed up early for the gig at Sonia and the buzz was palpable in the venue. A conspicuous number of OUT IN FRONT shirts suggested that a sizable portion of the audience were returning fans from last month. When the Californian trio began playing, the receptive crowd started moving and the room warmed up quickly, and OUT IN FRONT’s nostalgic sound played well to the diverse age range of the attendees. If the strong first section of “fLoAT” and “WAKE UP!” wasn’t enough to grab the newcomers, their cover of Fall Out Boy’s “Sugar, We’re Goin Down” certainly sealed the deal. The band also introduced their brand new single “FLY AWAY” alongside their other recent release “Medicine” before finishing with “AROUND WE GO” to round out a successful opening set.

LEAP dialed up the energy for their headline performance. Celebrating their debut album Entropy with their first proper tour of the United States, the British alt-rockers pulled no punches. It would be fair to consider the audience at Sonia unaccustomed to LEAP’s live performance, as when frontman Jacky Scott asked if anyone had already attended a LEAP show, only two girls up front could lay claim to the experience. For everyone else at Sonia, the show was an initiation. LEAP delivered a full throttle set that featured a near complete performance of Entropy as well as their new single, “Bloodlines”. Jacky Scott described the catharsis of the concert as the event ended: “Rock and roll therapy,” he called it before adding “I think you’ve given us a healthy dose of that tonight. Thank you.”
